Offsetting The Risk Of Deadly Diseases With Liposuction

By Barbara Collins

If beauty is only skin deep then why do a lot of us suffer from low self-esteem whenever we are overweight? Being fat can cause so many woes for us, such as in our health, in our relationships, and in our outlook about our existence.

On the positive side of things, weight loss methods are accessible all around us. There are exercises, diet regimens, and diet pills that help us lose those rolls of fat. Another procedure to bring out our body curves is liposuction.

During the late 1970s, Europe was the 1st region to promote a liposuction surgery. It was an astounding success; its repute as a weight loss and body contouring procedure made it well-known all over the globe.

When correctly handled, a liposuction procedure can give enduring positive changes, with the effects positively affecting several factors in a person's life.

Lastly, we may discover that others treat us better after liposuction; compliments are offered our way about how better we look. We achieve more confidence in our new-found freedom from body fat.

Medical procedures such as liposuction do come with inherent risks. In order to minimize these risks, it is advisable to acquire the service from a reputable medical practitioner and a clinic or hospital accredited to offer liposuction procedures.

Why More And More People Are Going For Liposuction

By Randolph Morris

Excess weight is probably the most common health issue today, and people around the world are constantly looking for successful and safe weight loss methods. Liposuction is one of the procedures that can be utilized for removing excess fat from specific parts of the body through surgery.

In this method, extra fat from the body is sucked out by injecting a suction instrument called cannula after making a minor cut in the body. When compared against the different traditional means of weight loss, Liposuction has certain advantages as mentioned below.

The most important benefit of liposuction is that it is a quicker method of losing weight. Most of the other weight loss techniques like maintaining a regulated diet or exercising require a lot of strenuous effort for months, and it is very difficult to maintain your motivation for such a long period. On the other hand, lipo ensures immediate loss of weight following surgery and keeps you on track to staying in shape by just following a healthy and active lifestyle.

Other traditional methods like dieting can give rise to a number of complications and cause serious health risks. In contrast to methods like dieting, liposuction is not only devoid of major side effects but also is safer and more successful in reducing weight. The bruises or marks left by surgery exist merely for a short period and are not permanent.

Moreover, liposuction is particularly effective in removing fat from certain parts of the body like thighs and the chin that can't be effectively dealt with by other methods. In fact, there is no area on the body on which liposuction does not guarantee a substantial fat loss.

Undoubtedly there are a number of benefits of undergoing liposuction, but you must not lose sight of the fact that it is a surgery nonetheless. Prior to opting for the procedure, you must undergo a thorough medical check up and take advice from your doctor to ensure that it will not cause any adverse effects. You must also keep in mind that you might need a small recovery time after the surgery.

Shaving, Plucking, Waxing, Laser: Which Is The Best Hair Removal Method?

By James Carter

A superfluous growth of hair all over the body served quite different uses for human during prehistoric times. Hair provided protection from the elements and barrier against crawling insects keen to enter body crevices.

At this time, when humans are now living indoors, an excessive growth of hair in parts of the body such as the face, legs, armpits, and bikini line are considered unsanitary. Women suffer all the more with this taboo, as excess hair may easily become a reflection of how well they take care of themselves.

The repulsiveness of overabundant body hair has become a major issue for many women; thus, a number of hair removal products and methods are out in the market to solve this "hairy" issue.

Shaving cuts the hair off at the skin surface. It is the most convenient of all hair elimination methods and also the most short-term manner of keeping hair away.

Tweezing is another hair removal technique seen to be better at keeping hair regrowth to a minimum. Nevertheless, it is thought to be very time-consuming because one needs to pluck out the hair strand one at a time.

Waxing is another hair removal method. It involves softening up up strips coated with wax and placing them on the leg. After several minutes, the strips are pulled out.

Laser is a painless and permanent process for removing unwanted hair. It works by seeking out melanin, which is responsible for the dark pigment of the hair. Once melanin is zapped, dark hair regrowth is nearly impossible.

If considering laser hair eradication, consult a certified dermatologic doctor to learn more about the pros and risks of this technology.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

By Margaret Allen

Researches on human behavior exposed that many individuals get skin art in their younger years and then later regret having ink on skin.

Skin art could threaten their prospects of getting jobs in "conservative" environments (such as in banks). Names of ex-lovers inked on body parts can create an uncomfortable situation in case there is a new love in one's life.

As stated by a dermatologic doctor who performs tattoo removals, a large majority (more than 1/2 of the population) of those who have skin art would wish to have them removed after a while.

Tattoo removal strategies have improved through time. The painful scratching and slicing procedures were now replaced with laser technology.

Laser technology application in the form of Q-switching can warrant a painless tattoo removal. The method works by bombarding the ink pigments of the tattoo with a high concentration of light pulses until the pigments are broken down. The pigments are then absorbed in the body.

With laser tattoo removal, a number of calls to the dermatologic medical practitioner may be needed to significantly diminish the visibility of the skin art. A majority of cosmetic doctors cannot guarantee that laser tattoo removal procedures will wholly remove a tattoo. There are different factors involved, such as the kind of ink used and how old (or new) the tattoo is. Yellow and green inks are more difficult to remove compared with blue and black inks; older skin art responds better to laser tattoo removal than newer ones.

After all said and done, here's a quick reminder: Tattoo removal fee is considerably higher than that paid for getting a tattoo.

What You Need To Know About Breast Enhancement

By Jim Antonio

An increasingly popular form of plastic surgery is breast enhancement; as many women seek to achieve that body beautiful look. Of course, there are a host of other reasons for such procedures; be it to boost self esteem and confidence, or following accident or illness. Whatever the reason however, it is important to understand exactly what is involved.

Understanding what is involved is necessary for a host of reasons; and understanding that all enhancement surgery is a risk is amongst these. The majority of complications stem from complications through the procedure itself; anesthetic, bleeding and so forth. But there are others; including negligence.

It is important to state that professional errors are negligible across the board, but it is important to thoroughly check the credentials of the operating team and surgeon in particular. Word of mouth can go a long way in this regard of course; but you should not neglect to do your own research.

Once a decision to go with a certain clinic has been made, there will be time spent with the surgeon and possibly other team members, to go through the procedure in detail. Sessions will obviously involve nudity, the touching of the breasts, and intimate discussion. This is uncomfortable of course, so this needs to be considered.

These sessions also provide an opportunity for the patient to raise any concerns they have, question the team regards successes and failures, and go through all and any options available. A surgeon is there to provide expert guidance, not lead the discussion. If there is any doubt regards this, it is always best to walk away; there are teams that may be better for some.

The overriding issue that needs through discussion regards keeping ideals realistic. All too often, women are left disappointed having selected to go up a cup size too far; it simply does not suit them. It is also important to understand that repeat procedures to correct, amend and recover may be needed over time.

Once a decision has been made to undergo breast enhancement surgery, and once completed, there needs to be an extended period of time where the patient's will be monitored. This will be done by the clinic of course; but self examination and so forth will also be required. This should last for no less than four or six weeks as scars heal, tissue repairs, and bruising alleviates.

Increasingly, breast enhancement procedures are becoming safer, more successful and improving in delivery of service. However, there are alternatives that can be considered. All too often, women wear the wrong bra for example. Being professionally fitted can have a dramatic effect for many.

A regular bra can also be complimented with silicone enhancers; that give shape, size and definition. These often just slip in between the breast and the bra itself, or can be fully inserted to the bra lining. Many surgeons recommend using these as a precursor to surgery too; allowing for a good estimation of appropriate size required.

Of course, there are more permanent breast enhancement options available. Many have found success with herbal supplements and creams for example. Whichever is the preferred route however, it is only sensible that consultation with a doctor is sought before any period of help is taken.

Things You Need To Know Before Going For Breast Enhancement

By Anastasia Hemmingway

Getting a breast enhancement operation exposes you to risks such as breast-feeding difficulties or implant leakage. Thus, it is necessary to know these common dangers and side-effects to better prepare you on what to do.

Quite a number of patients who have undergone breast enhancement successfully breast feed. However, there is still a probability that it will affect the breast feeding process. Before moving through the surgery, consult your surgeon about this. Sometimes, breast enhancement results to a loss of sensation in the nipple and breast area. This loss of sensation, which results from broken nerve endings, may be temporary or permanent. The result would be based on the breast enhancement technique utilized by your surgeon.

Another possible danger of having breast enhancement procedures are the leaking of the breast implant materials into the surrounding breast tissue. To decrease the possibility of leaking, make sure that the implant material that will be utilized is approved by the FDA. Implants may also burst or tear over time. Normally, snaps occur when there is extreme compression or injury to the breast. It may also be due to the natural aging of the implant. Sometimes, it is mammography itself that constricts the breast implant, thereby causing it to bust.

The worst risk in breast enhancement rests in its inference of breast cancer detection. Breast enhancement implants may cover breast tumors during mammography or ultrasound. For patients with breast enhancement, additional views and special imaging are needed during breast examination. The "Eklund displacement views" helps maximize the visibility of the breast tissue to further detect tumors.

Before undergoing a breast enhancement surgery, it is recommended to discuss the possible fallouts with your chosen certified surgeon who has enough experience in breast enhancement. Ensure that the surgeon will inform you of everything you need to know about the procedure and its consequences.

How To Get A Stunning Look With The Help Of Plastic Surgery

By Joseph Devine

These days, many of us are sad with certain aspects of look and hope that if might modify them. Other than this, time too has its influence on appearance, such as wrinkles, dark spots etc as age with time, individual body begins to degenerate gradually and exchange the way their look. Some would love to reverse this effect and fortunately, nowadays it is possible to do so with the assistance of cosmetic and plastic surgery.

Cosmetic and plastic surgery comprises of a number of surgical processes that changes a physical appearance and make it more pleasing than before. Aesthetic cosmetic surgery can be performed on numerous parts of our body. The outcome and risks of cosmetic surgery vary individually. Therefore, before going for it, we must understand the risks concerned during this surgery. We should consult an experienced plastic surgeon and ask for details before deciding to undergo surgery. Among the several kinds of plastic or cosmetic surgeries, eyelid surgery, nose surgery and laser surgery are becoming gradually more popular these days.

Belpharoplasty is the medical term for eyelid surgery, the fat and the extra skin and muscles of our body are removed from the upper and lower eyelids during this surgery. It is basically a corrective surgery for sagging upper eyelids and bags below the eyes. Dropping eyelids and bags below the eye make us look a lot more older and sleepy, and also may have an effect on our eyesight. However one vital thing of this surgery is that this procedure does not remove wrinkles around the eye or the dark circles beneath our eyes. Eyelid surgery can't be used to remove ethnically and racially distinct eye patterns, but can be done along with different facial processes.

Likewise, the 'nose cosmetic surgery' is the procedure to redesign your nose, is most popular among all other plastic surgery practices as mentioned above. Rhinoplasty or nose surgery can lessen or improve the size of our nose, alter the shape of the tip or the bridge, thin the span of the nostrils, or modify the angle between our nose and our upper lip. Even our birth defect or any kind of injury scar will be done wonderful as well through nose surgery.

In today's era, many people are falling prey to stretch marks. But stretch mark is not an ailment, it has become cause of concern as it stands in the way of lovely look. These days, as we all are becoming so conscious about our appearance, stretch marks tends to diminish our confidence level.

Therefore, people are resorting to laser surgery as the most effective means to treat stretch marks. There's also a plethora of treatments out there for getting rid of our stretch marks like various kinds of creams and ointments. But as we invariably wish fast treatments that may give us magical results immediately therefore, we would prefer laser surgery to treat our stretch marks rather than using any cream or ointments. Laser surgery is an expensive choice compared to other procedure including the home remedies. Though it does not guarantee success, however the success rate is definitely on an upper level. In several cases, laser surgery has been in a position to cure stretch marks effectively.

But always bear in mind, each cosmetic surgical procedure involves certain regular risks, such as in eyelid surgery infection, dry eye problems, bleeding, blindness and damage to nerves, blood vessels and muscles inside the eye are just some complications that can occur when the surgery is completed.

Geranium Smells Good and Is Good for the Body

By Brenda Reynolds

Background

If you have had the opportunity of smelling a geranium flower, you will remember a type of sweet, rosy herbaceous fragrance - a perfume onto itself. This perennial plant, which can grow up to one meter in height is commonly known as geranium and botanically identified as the genus Pelargonium. Confusingly, there is a related plant with the genus Geranium but commonly known as cranesbill. Both genera share the same family of Geraniaceae. Gardeners often refer to the Pelargonium genus as "pelargoniums" rather than geraniums, in order to avoid continual confusion. There are also morphological differences between the two genera, specifically in their flower formation.

Although geranium has been used for thousands of years going back to the Greeks and Romans, it was not until the late 17th century that this plant, indigenous to South Africa, was introduced to Europe. Soon after European introduction hybrid cultivars were created and distributed around the world. During the Victorian era, potted rose geranium was often kept in parlors in order to revive the senses. Another Victorian practice was to place geranium leaves in finger bowls at formal dining tables. Today, as in Victorian times, the most widely used Pelargonium species is Pelargonium grave lens, or rose geranium. The essential oil of rose geranium is prized by aroma therapists and cosmologists alike. P. graveolens is used in aromatherapy for its medicinal applications such as an antiseptic, as a haemostatic (stops bleeding), a tonic to regulate the nervous system, a diuretic (to treat edema) and a hormone balancer. In the perfume industry, rose geranium oil is often mixed in or even replaces the more expensive rose petal essential oil. Cosmologists also use this aromatic oil in lotion, soaps, shampoos and creams. One might presume that geranium essential oil comes from the flower alone, yet it is the leaves and branches where the oil glands are found and through a process of steam distillation the oil is extracted. In order to increase the yield of oil during this procedure, processors will often partially dry the plant.

The first geranium plants grown for the French perfume industry were planted in Algeria in 1847 and then in the 1880s extensive plantations were established in Reunion - an island in the Indian Ocean governed by France. Geranium oil is also cultivated in other parts of the world for its commercial value such as China, Egypt, Russia and Central America. The oil from China is thought to be similar to that of Reunion (known as Bourbon), while the Egyptian geranium is quite different. This is due to various soil and climatic conditions. The Bourbon variety, with its rich aroma, is considered to be the most important of the geranium oils.

Geranium May Be a Medical Treatment Option

In the last decade there has been a rise in attention given to antibiotic-resistant microbes, especially ones that cause severe infectious diseases and lead to fatality. On the first day of this new year of 2010, researchers from the National University of Ireland in Galway announced to the world that disinfectants can cause bacteria to resist antibiotics. Their study, published in the January 2010 issue of Microbiology, looked at the response of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to increasing levels of disinfectant. (P. aeruginosa is a bacterium that is a known occupant in hospitals, causing a wide range of infections in hospital patients. Standard hospital procedure is to use a surface disinfectant to prevent the spread of bacteria. If bacteria manage to survive and in turn infect patients, then antibiotics are administered.) The researchers found that P. aeruginosa adapted to increasing levels of disinfectant and even developed a resistance to an antibiotic (ciprofloxacin) without being exposed to the drug directly. More specifically, the researchers revealed that the bacteria had created a more efficient means of pumping out the antimicrobial agents (such as disinfectants and antibiotics) through their cell wall and developed a mutation in their DNA to resist ciprofloxacin-type antibiotics specifically. With such findings, the researchers concluded that such bacterial adaptations could be of great harm to hospital patients and advised to reconsider how disinfectants are used in hospital settings.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria are widespread in nature, inhabiting soil, water, plants, and animals. Yet these pathogens usually do not infect healthy human individuals, only those with compromised immune systems. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), P. aeruginosa accounts for 10.1 percent of all hospital-acquired infections and can be a cause of such diseases as pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), bone and joint infections, gastrointestinal infections and bacteremia. These infections are considered complicated and possibly life threatening.

There are an increasing number of studies being published in peer-reviewed journals on the potent antimicrobial properties of essential oils, including geranium. A 2004 study (Burns 2004 Dec; 30(8): 772-7) found that geranium in combination with Citracidal (grapefruit seed extract) had great effectiveness against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and in combination with tea tree was highly effective against methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus. These researchers concluded that essential oils serve as highly useful antimicrobial agents and in treatment of MSRA infection. A more recent study (BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine 2006 Nov 30; 6:39) found that essential oils, including geranium were effective against Staphylococcus aureus, including the ubiquitous bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Concluding Thoughts

Geranium, a common plant found in many gardens, is also of historical and now medical significance. Its traditional uses are well accounted and its therapeutic actions used for centuries. The pharmacological and clinical studies of geranium essential oil are steadily increasing. It is no small concern that individuals seeking hospital care are greatly threatened by antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. Medical researchers are currently investigating alternatives to conventional microbial treatments, with great attention given to the antibacterial properties of essential oils. It is clear that modern medicine must confront its limitations and refer back to plants and how they have developed a system of defensive antimicrobial chemicals over millions of years.

5 Things You Can Do Now to Help Prevent Breast Cancer - Breast Cancer Prevention

By Veronica Carrillo

Epidemiology Even though numerous epidemiological risk factors have been fully documented, it is still evident that the formation of many specific breast cancers has not been determined. Accordingly, epidemiological research derives the manner in which it manifests itself within a particular population, but it is unable to identify the characteristics relevant to an individual. In terms of specifics, the dominant risk factors are known to be the following: Sex, Age, Childbearing, Hormones, High Fat Diet, Alcohol Consumption, Obesity, Smoking, Radiation, and Shiftwork.

Although the etiology of some 95% of breast cancer cases is still not known, that relating to the remaining 5% of new cases has been identified as being associated with aspects of hereditary. Of particular note, are those individuals who are known to be carriers of the susceptibility genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2. In such cases, there is an additional risk of some 30-40% in respect of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Which of these manifests itself is dependent upon the particular part of the protein in which the mutation occurs.

While it is a correlation between obesity and cancer, estimates show that being overweight counts for about one in seven men and astoundingly one in five women contributing to some form of cancer related deaths in the US alone.

Some women have also inherited 2 genes known as BRCA1 and BRCA2. These women are more susceptible to breast cancer. They need to get the treatment done in the initial stages itself, so they have to be on the lookout for symptoms of this cancer. So, naturally, you are on the lookout for all the possible breast cancer symptoms, which might forecast the prospective onset of this dread disease. These symptoms include an unexplained lump, which may be hard or tender, in the breast. You may possibly also find this lump underneath your armpit. You also need to look for other cancer symptoms like the skin getting red and itchy. You may find one breast swelling abnormally. That is because the cancerous cells in the body are absorbing all the blood supplied to the breast region.

In the United States, amongst native Americans and the natives of Alaska, the last few years have seen a steady decline in both the incidence and reported death rates from the disease. The Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR) is a non-profit organisation in the United States established in order to facilitate the health of all women through research, education and campaigning. Founded in 1990, the SWHR highlighted the need to include women in fundamental medical research studies and the requirement for greater information concerning factors affecting women predominantly, and how their needs differ from those of men.

Exercise: For many years, research has found that exercise has been known to decrease the risks of breast cancer. Exercising only 20 minutes a day with some form of high intensity training can greatly reduce cancer and even help towards your overall health. With today's increasing number of fast food chains, and our society working 60-70 hours per week, we tend to slack on the importance of our overall health. Women especially need to be concerned with the importance of keeping your bodies in tuned with daily exercise as well as your nutrition, the proper amount of rest, and drinking at least 64oz of water daily can reduce the risks of breast cancer and help you achieve a solid foundation for living a longer life.

The First Part Of Our Breast Cancer Story

By Tony Ulrich

We received my wife's Breast Cancer diagnosis in March of 2009. And only seven months later I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer, also called Renal Cell Carcinoma. Over the next few weeks, I will publish "Our Breast Cancer Story" in six chapters. Please note, that everything you are about to read is written from my perspective and not my wife's.

It was the 3rd of March of 2009 when Ann called me up in my hotel room. I was out for business attending a conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. A few weeks prior to that, she just had her annual mammogram done. She was called back into the doctor's office because apparently there were some irregularities seen on the slides. Nothing really to freak out over, since it happened before and her mom and her sisters had a few biopsies done, too, and they always came back okay.

So I was completely in shock when she told me, that her doctor had just called her to tell her, that she had Breast Cancer. It was brutal. I cannot even describe what and how I felt. I felt empty and overwhelmed at the same time. This couldn't be true. Not my wife. I started crying and maybe that's what made me feel so guilty. Because I knew I had to be strong now for Ann, yet, there I was, crying my heart out.

It killed me that I couldn't be with Ann. Instead I was trapped in a hotel in North Carolina. My flight back home was scheduled two days later - but maybe there was a chance to get me on a plane heading back to Jersey the next day.

When we hung up the phone, I completely fell apart. I pray for you that you will never have to go through anything like that.

And something else happened. All the things in life I had worried about, e. g. our mortgage, the bills, the future, everything became instantaneously unimportant. There was only one thing that really mattered, and that was Ann's health. The rest was irrelevant. Period. I prayed my heart out and begged the Lord for help. He was probably surprised to hear from me after such a long time - but I felt that he heard me and that gave me some comfort.

Now it was time o figure out a way to get back to Jersey as soon as possible. I went on the Internet to check my airline's schedule and to my surprise there was a flight going out that same night at 10:00PM and so I changed my reservation accordingly. My airline called me back about five minutes later to let me know, that this flight was likely to get cancelled because of the weather situation, however, if I could make it to the airport within the next 40 minutes, they could get me on an earlier plane. I knew that this was practically impossible, but I told them that I will try. I had to pack, check out, organize a cab, get through customs, etc...and all that in 40 minutes?!

The hotel kindly offered me to give me a shuttle ride over to the Raleigh-Durham airport. Unfortunately, the driver was new in his job and from Kentucky so he didn't know the area that well. And of course, he missed the one and only exit off of the highway to the airport. The next U-turn was 15 miles away. I could literally see me plane standing there, but now there was no way to get on to it.

I don't know how it was actually possible, but I still made it. I like to believe that the Lord had mercy with me and I know that this might sound corny to some of you. But anyway, I got on the waiting plane and a few hours later I was able to hold my wife in my arms. The first battle in our personal war on cancer was won.
